Dutch duo complete World Cup of Pool line-up

Roy Gerards (left) and Gijs van Helmond won a qualifying tournament and will now form the Holland B side HOLLAND'S Roy Gerards and Gijs van Helmond have claimed the last remaining spot in the 2008 PartyPoker.net World Cup of Pool.

The event will be staged in the Netherlands next month and the duo won a qualifying tournament to secure their spot at the Outland in Rotterdam.

As hosts, Holland are entitled to two teams in the competition with Niels Feijen and Nick van den Berg being paired together in the Holland A side.

But eight Dutch pairs battled over the weekend to see who would form the Holland B outfit. Gerards and van Helmond triumphed as they defeated Alex Lely and Rico Diks, the Holland B team in 2007, 8-5 in the final. Gerards is a regular on the Euro Tour and claimed a bronze medal at the 2005 European 9-Ball Championships in Luxembourg, while van Helmond reached the semi-finals of the 2007 Dutch Championships in both 9-ball and 14.1.

The successful duo face a tough start in the main event as they meet the seventh seeded Taiwanese side of Wang Hung-hsiang and 2005 World Champion Wu Chia-ching.

The tournament will be held from October 7 to October 12 and Matchroom Sport will produce 31 1-hour highlights programmes which will be broadcast around the world.
